What is your attitude like right now? Attitudes can be fickle since they are shaped by feelings. Your attitudes have their source in your heart.
That’s why taking care of your heart is so important. A carefully tended heart produces the loveliest attitudes.
Here’s what the Bible says about your heart attitude:
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
Your heart is the source of everything you do. If you store negativity in your heart, it will flow out and wound others. However, if you store God’s love in your heart instead, it will flow out and bless others.
Jesus said in Matthew 15:18 (NIV), “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.” Jesus taught that hardened hearts aren’t open to God’s love.
In Matthew 22:37 (NIV), Jesus offered the greatest commandment as a solution:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Loving God puts a new attitude in your heart. When you invite God into your heart, his love gives you the power to have a positive attitude. The Holy Spirit gives you the power to bear spiritual fruit from a heart that is yielded to his purposes.
Philippians 2:5 (NLT) says, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” The next three verses tell us how Jesus had the attitude of humility. This is the heart attitude God values most.
You will experience the peace that passes all understanding if you “let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your [heart]” (Col. 3:15 NLT).
